Reflection

This blog was created as a class final project. When I first got this assignment I was a little iffy towards it at first but once I started it, my feelings changed. I went through numerous amounts of different topics but when I finally picked this one it started coming natural. I think blogs are a great way to get the way you feel out to the world. It makes you realize that a lot of other people are interested in the same thing as you and they feel the same way as you. Or they may have a completely different opinion. I think that was the most rewarding lesson, knowing that.

There are many difficulties to having a blog also. Starting the blog was easy, designing it was extremely fun, but finding a topic was a challenge. There are so many topics to write about and so many topics that you feel strongly on, so which one do you choose? I chose this topic because in the past year a lot has happened. All the events that had happened-whether it was family issues or friends, distracted me. My grades started going down and I became less focused. This, of course, was dreadful. I have always had good grades and when they went down, I realized that something needed to change. The beginning of this year I promised myself that I would focus on school, and put that first instead of all of the distractions. Now, I am a junior in high school dealing with the stress of picking a college, deciding what I want to become, and keeping my grades to their full potential so I can actually get into college. So I figured I would write a blog on the many distractions during high school. So if you are going through this too, I suggest taking my advice, read my posts. If you still feel lost, message me.

I am now supposed to tell you if I will continue to keep the blog. In the last hour I have thought a lot about it. It’s a hard decision but I think I have made one. I do not think I will continue as regular as I have been. I have a lot going on as I explained in the last paragraph. But if I someday get an epiphany on something related to this blog, I will come back and update.

Moving On

http://flic.kr/p/4gP9QG

So I know all of you may have encountered something in life that you don't know how to move on from it. Whether it is a break up or losing a loved one, we all go through it. So what do you do? Some people may dwell on it but that never changes anything. You sit around for days and days and just can't get that one thing off your mind. One thing that a person says will spark a memory or make you think of whatever is on your mind. Eventually, as time goes on, you start to not think of it as often. But the thing is, the hardship will always be in the back of your mind unless you completely move on from it. Everybody tells you to put one foot in front of the other and everything will fall into place, well that is not as easy as it sounds, is it?

These are things you should consider doing.
  • If you are trying to move on from a relationship, you should try to avoid seeing or talking to that person. Seeing or talking to them will only bring up memories that will only hurt your more.
  • Talk about how you feel. Have a girl’s night with all of your friends and talk about it. Talking will only make you feel better especially when your friends can give you feedback. Also, girl’s nights can help you not think about the situation.
  • Crying can help too. Crying may not solve anything, but sometimes it can help you get some feelings out. Do not feel like crying is weak, because it is not it can really help.
  • Forgive. This may seem ridiculous but if you constantly hold the hatred you have for that person, you will stress yourself out. Hatred in the heart will end up affecting you more than the person or thing you have a problem with. Forgive what that person did to you or what happened, but don’t forget. Remember what this experience has taught you, and keep that with you for the rest of your life so you know what to do if you have a situation like this later on in life.

Movie Review!

http://flic.kr/p/8xhwFT

I was watching Grease this weekend and realized that it would be a good review for this blog.

Grease was first released in 1978 and is a musical romance. The movie takes place in the 50’s and is a story about two teens in love. Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Sandy Olsen (Olivia Newton-John) met over the summer and fell in love. When they returned to school neither of them knew that Sandy now attended Rydell High School. Danny was the leader of the T-birds. The T-birds were a group of greasers with black-jackets. At a school pep rally, they ran into each other and Danny did not act like he did at the beach that summer. Sandy realizes how Danny really is and starts hanging out with the Pink Ladies. They end up reuniting and going on a date but it gets crashed by their friends. When the school dance is held, Danny and Sandy went together, but Danny and Cha Cha reunite so Sandy leaves. The movie ends with the last day of school when they go celebrate graduation at the fairgrounds. Danny transformed into a jock and Sandy changed into a bad girl wearing black leather and smoking a cigarette. They break out in song and dance and they share their love for each other so they leave together in Danny’s car saying goodbye to everyone.

I think this movie is a classic and everybody should see it. It shows how people acted in high school, the different people, the cliques, and gives a good back round on how the 1950s were. It shows that guys act different when they are with their friends rather than when they are alone. It also shows high school relationships. I would recommend this movie to anybody who wants to watch a movie about with singing, dance, and high school romance.

College Stress

http://flic.kr/p/6QpSqG

Finding out what you are going to do after you get out of high school is one of the hardest things that you go through in high school. There are so many things to consider. What do you want to do as a career? If you decide that you want to go to college, where? What do you want to major in? Public or private college? How am I going to pay for college? Are my grades good enough? There are so many things to decide, and each decision is crucial. So what do you do? Here are five helpful ways to relieve your stress to get into college from an article I found.

  1. "Be Organized.  There are lots of resources that will give you a time line so you can know what is ahead of you in the application process. You can also check with your school and local library for free or low cost college planning presentations.  Using these resources, you can come up with your own plan that will help you get into college with the least stress possible.
  2. Stay ahead of the game.  Waiting till the last minute is the biggest stress-producer there is. If you begin your college search in the Spring of your junior year, you will have a tentative list to work from during the summer.  Make sure you’ve also taken the SAT and/or ACT by the end of your junior year.  (If the schools you are considering require SAT Subject tests, be sure to take those, too.)  That way you will have time to do test prep before you repeat the test(s) in the Fall.  Set your own deadlines well ahead of what the colleges demand and stick to those deadlines.  Better to be finished early than to be derailed by an unforeseen event at the last minute.  (i.e. a computer crash or prolonged power outage)
  3. Be realistic.  As you decide which colleges to include on your list, consider your chances for admission there.  Applying to a couple of dream schools is fine, but your list should focus more on the schools where you have a decent chance of being admitted.  Keep in mind that each application is going to take time to complete well – possibly way more time than you expect.  You don’t need to have a huge list of schools in order to get into college as long as you do your research well and choose those schools carefully.
  4. Use the summer wisely.  While it’s important to get some “down time” during the summer, the most stress-free students devote part of their summer to working on at least one college application essay.  For some schools, it’s even possible to start working on their applications.  It’s also a great time to sharpen your test-taking skills by taking a class or using a practice book.
  5. Ask for help.  One of the best ways to avoid unnecessary stress is to seek out your school counselor or an independent counselor with any questions you may have.  They can give you the answers you need as well as provide you with additional information that may help you get into college."

Addicted?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidfarrant/2491881324/

As many of you may know, one of the most distracting objects known to the human population is electronics. Computers, Playstations, Wiis, Xboxs, and cell phones are just some of the many out there. Many of you have probably experienced getting home from school and going straight to Facebook, Modern Warfare, Just Dance, or even just texting your friends. Maybe you’ve experienced the need to do one of those activities.

Some of you may be saying that’s ridiculous, but being addicted to electronics can actually occur. What would you do without your cell phone? Some of you may be fine, but some may have a breakdown. At the University of Maryland, Professor Susan Moeller conducted an experiment with her students. She requested that her 200 students in journalism class shut all of their electronic devices off for twenty-four hours. They were also asked to keep a journal of how they felt and what was different. Her results were not expected. She found that some of her students had words in their journals like “withdrawal” and “dependency” on their devices. Some also felt nervous and jittery, but the results weren't just in their head. The students started having physical signs of withdrawal and addiction. They felt the, “need to drum their fingers on a desk or make noises with their mouths to keep themselves occupied.” http://www.ntdaily.com/?p=52832

So if you are having these symptoms, you should take action. Try to do something besides using the computer, phone, or video game console. Try to go out and do something, go outside and play catch with your friends. Instead of texting your friend, call them up and see if you can hang out and do something productive. Turn your phone off for a week, or deactivate your Facebook. You would be surprised on how much you don’t miss it and how much other stuff you accomplish.
